Car market leader Maruti Suzuki unveiled its youngest brand A-Star in a revamped "Spiced - Up" form today. The retail sales of the new refreshed A-star will begin from January 27th, 2012.
Strategically positioned for the young and energetic, the brand A-star has come a long way in establishing itself as a youth icon.
Explaining the modifications, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager, Marketing said, "A-star is one of the most vibrant brands in our portfolio. Some of its high points such as contemporary styling, dynamic handling and ride quality, best in class turning radius, power, flat torque and superior performance has made A-star a popular choice especially amidst the youth. The smart modifications in the spiced-up A-star are in line with customer feedback and seek to enhance the overall look, feel and comfort of the buyers. "
To strengthen its position and enhance its drivability, the Company had introduced an automatic variant of the A-star last fiscal. The automatic variant now accounts for almost 1/3 rd of A-Star sales. In line with the customer feedback, scooped front seats back was introduced to enhance the leg room for rear passengers.
Incidentally, A-star is Suzuki's fifth World Strategic Model and is manufactured at the Company's Manesar facility.
New youthful interiorsIn its newest "Spiced - Up" form, A-star, sports completely revamped interiors. The dual 'grey and beige' interiors impart freshness to the offering.
Complimented by rich beige upholstery, the interiors are refreshing and new for the segment. Smart interplay of colors, imparts roominess.
Maruti Suzuki engineers reworked on the front headrests to give a roomier feeling to the interiors.
The 50:50 rear split seats have enhanced user convenience and boot space usage. In addition, useful and handy cubby holes, bottle holders have been created for passenger comfort and ease.
The dynamic and active sporty stance of the A-star is now accentuated by integrating a sporty rear spoiler.
Engine & TransmissionPowered by state-of-the-art, light weight, 998cc K10B petrol engine, A-star offers fuel-efficiency car 19 kilometers per litre, as tested by ARAI, Pune. Incidentally, A-star was the first model in Maruti Suzuki stable to have the K-series engine. The engine offers power of 67ps @ 6200 rpm and torque of 90Nm @ 3500 rpm. The flat torque curve comes in handy while negotiating the stop-go city traffic conditions with ease.
Flagship export modelAs a flagship export model, A-Star has clocked cumulative sales of over 3.81 lakh units. It is one of those rare models in Maruti Suzuki stable where the international sales have by far exceeded the domestic sales numbers.
Maruti Suzuki has exported over 2.81 lakh units, primarily in the European markets as Netherlands, Italy, UK, Spain, Germany. Other markets which have appreciated the A-star for its high fuel efficiency and low emissions include Australia, and South Africa. Interestingly, A-star is exported in over 130 variants.
Awards & AccoladesMaruti Suzuki A-star is one of the most awarded cars in MSIL stable; it bagged the 'Car of the year' felicitation from leading auto magazines, Topgear, Zigwheels and Autocar. It was also rated 'Most fuel efficient car', in the world by Global green challenge Australia, 2nd most environmental friendly car by VCD Germany and Total Customer Satisfaction Award in 2009-10, 2010-11.
